i've poked at this map a little bit here and there but finally managed to
buckle down and get it done. it's not necessarily super hard, but it can be
pretty relentless. the central area has a narrow walkway surrounding a
super-deep pit, and fishing the weapons out of there is the first order of
business. but jumping down there right away means needing to dance through a
quartet of hell knights later in a way i found quite awkward. so instead we
squeeze past to get the rocket launcher and a bunch of rockets, then take
things from there. the room with the bfg that follows can be pretty finicky
with getting revenants to infight and staying out of archvile range. and you
won't have the cells for a bit to really go nuts with it. continuing around
clockwise opens up another chunk of monsters, including several pain elementals
and another archvile, but at this point you have significantly more freedom of
movement and can start rocketing from the far side. but each of the next few
encounters is going to drop in a number of archviles so be careful about that.
also be careful with escaping the red key elevator and getting around the cyber
out there. then it's on to the finale, which can be a bit of a grind. there's
a lot of tripwire triggers to be careful about, including the very first one
which lets out a couple archviles in the next room over plus a massive number
of pinkies. don't hesitate to spend rockets or cells on them - there's really
way more than you want to super shotgun to death. i tried to get some
infighting going in this area with the cyberdemon and mastermind but it largely
didn't work out super well. the two archviles in the back are easily the most
annoying part and after hemming and hawing i went for glory and took them out
with the bfg. probably should have just cut to the chase and took down the
cyber with the plasma first but it is what it is.

it's maybe not for everyone but i really like the vanilla texturing and layout
of this map. the caged revenants and stuff give it a real alien vendetta feel,
although i think this particular brown texture is more associated with hell
revealed.
